What to know before you fence in Frisco

Frisco grew faster than almost any city in the country through the 2000s and 2010s, so a lot of its fences went up with the houses, built to a builder's budget. Many of those are now reaching the age where posts lean and boards give out. Before anything goes in the ground, these are the rules that shape a Frisco fence.

Frisco city rules

  • Up to 8 feet tall in the back and side yards, and up to 4 feet in front of the house.
  • A city fence permit is required for new fences. Repairing up to two sections or 16 feet does not need one.
  • Corner-lot vision clips and access and maintenance easements have to stay clear, and no part of the fence can cross the property line.
  • Some subdivisions require HOA approval before the city permit is issued.

Pool fences in Frisco

  • At least 48 inches tall, measured on the side away from the pool.
  • Gates must be self-closing and self-latching, and open away from the pool.
  • Chain link cannot be used as part of a pool enclosure.

Frisco neighborhoods and HOAs

Much of Frisco is master-planned, in communities like Phillips Creek Ranch, Starwood, Stonebriar and Newman Village, where a master HOA, and sometimes a sub-HOA, sets fence height, style and stain color. We build from your HOA's written spec and match the fence line your neighbors already have, so the approval goes through the first time.

City rules change. We check the current requirements for your address before we quote and walk you through the permit.

The part nobody tells you

A fence does not fail because of the wood. It fails because of how it is set.

Most of North Texas sits on expansive clay that swells after rain and shrinks in the August heat. Posts set shallow get pushed a little every season, which is why so many Frisco fences start leaning after a few summers, whatever they are made of. We set posts deeper than code minimum in real concrete, and the owner checks the line before the crew leaves.

Just moved in to Frisco?Get the yard closed in before the dog and the kids are turned loose, built once and built right.
Old fence giving up?Leaning posts, rot or storm damage. A fence inspection tells you honestly whether it is a repair or a replacement.
Privacy, pool or resale?Taller privacy, pool-code gates or curb appeal before you list, with your HOA and Collin County city rules checked first.
