Most cracking comes from a poorly compacted base and missing control joints. We prep and compact the base properly and finish with correct jointing to keep concrete flat and solid.

Where concrete cracks

Concrete cracks, the question is whether you chose where

All concrete moves and effectively all of it cracks eventually. A slab that looks bad at three years is not a slab that cracked, it is a slab where nobody decided in advance where the cracks would go. Control joints put in at the right spacing and depth give the movement a place to happen in a straight line you barely notice.

A base compacted before the pourMost failures are base failures. Ground prepared and compacted properly supports the slab evenly. Poured over soft or uneven fill, the slab bridges the gap until it cannot, and then it breaks where it was never intended to.
Joints placed deliberatelyControl joints go in at a spacing suited to the thickness and shape of the pour, and cut deep enough to actually work. Placed too far apart or too shallow, the slab ignores them and cracks where it likes.
Separated from what it meetsWhere a slab abuts the house, a pool deck or a structure, it gets a separation so the two can move independently. Poured hard against them, something has to give and it is usually the visible edge.
Finish chosen for grip and heatA smooth troweled surface is slick when wet and a broom finish is not, and colour changes how hot a slab gets underfoot in August. Around a pool or on a route used barefoot, those two decisions matter more than the shade you pick from a card, and neither can be changed once the pour has cured.

Concrete is the least glamorous thing we pour and the thing everything else in the yard sits on, so it is worth getting the boring parts right. Concrete is also the element that everything else in the yard has to work around, so it gets poured with the future in mind: heights set for a structure that comes later, and separations placed where a wall or a post will eventually land. Those are free decisions now and costly ones once it has cured.
